Timileyin Oriowo's journey to Katsina State for his NYSC scheme was a thrilling adventure, filled with excitement, new experiences, and unforgettable encounters. From the bustling Ibadan terminal in Ojoo to the vibrant city of Katsina, Timi's travelogue is a captivating tale of self-discovery and exploration.

As the sun rose over Ibadan, Timi arrived at the motor park, eager to embark on his journey. The first bus, filled with corp members and their anxious relatives, was a sight to behold. With a mix of emotions, Timi waited for the second bus, destined for Kano, the gateway to his final destination, Katsina.


A chance encounter with a fellow corp member, deployed to Jigawa State, sparked a conversation that would last throughout the journey. As they awaited other passengers, Timi marveled at the diverse group of travelers, each with their own story to tell.

The hours ticked by, filled with phone calls from loved ones, food breaks, and toilet stops (at 100 naira each!). Finally, the bus departed, carrying Timi and his new friends into the unknown.

As they traversed the Nigerian landscape, the group encountered army checkpoints and immigration officers, sparking lively interactions and humorous mimicking of worried parents. The night wore on, with laughter and conversations filling the bus.

The next morning, the group arrived in Kano, greeted by a torrential downpour. With a sense of accomplishment, Timi bid farewell to his travel companions and embarked on the final leg of his journey to Katsina.

A Corp Member's Journey to Excellence: from pcm to outstanding corp member in katsina state



Timileyin Oriowo's journey as a prospective corp member (PCM) to a deployed state for the NYSC scheme in Katsina State is a testament to his dedication, resilience, and passion for service. From the moment he embarked on his route to Katsina Orientation Camp, Mani Road, Katsina, Timi's experience was marked by excitement, challenges, and growth.

Upon arrival at the camp gate, Timi underwent a three-stage checking process, interacting with law enforcement officers from the Army, NDLEA, Police, and others. He was warmly welcomed with light refreshments, including biscuits and a bottle of water. A camp officer addressed the new corp members, outlining the journey ahead.

Timi's camping experience was filled with purpose and achievement. He joined the Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) and served meritoriously as a broadcaster, showcasing his exceptional communication skills. His selfless service and seriousness during the 9th Platoon parade rehearsal caught the attention of the camp RSM, leading to his selection for the Quarter Guard for the parade.

As a respected and influential figure among his peers, Timi led Christian corp members in devotion, delivering a powerful message on "Realms of Blessing." He encouraged his fellow corp members to seek opportunities and avoid distractions, emphasizing the importance of timing and focus.

Timi's creativity shone through in various aspects of camp life. He performed at a presentation welcoming the Army Commander of the 17 Brigade Nigeria Army, Katsina, Brigadier General A.O Fadairo. His skills as a presenter and spoken word artist left a lasting impression.

Embracing the NYSC scheme's Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) program, Timi joined the cinematography and photography class, further honing his creative talents.

Throughout his camping experience, Timi demonstrated exceptional leadership, calmness, and maturity. He was well-respected by his fellow corp members and left an indelible mark on the Katsina camp.

NYSC ADVENTURE: Broadcasting Hope and Inspiration in Katsina  A Journey of Self-Discovery, Service, and Storytelling 

Timileyin Olamilekan Oriowo’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) experience in Katsina was a transformative journey, maked by growth, service, and storytelling ,As a broadcaster in the Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS), Timi’s voice resonated across the camp, inspiring fellow corp members and staffs.



Timi’s day begin with reciting morning motivation, setting a positive tone for 9platoon. He then delved into news casting, gathering stories, and reporting on camp activities. His passion for broadcasting shone bright, as he brought camp experiences of life. He recalls, "Those early morning broadcasts were exhilarating! I grew both professionally and personally, thanks to the supportive OBS team and camp director."

Before the camp's opening order of the day, Timileyin stood confidently before Camp Director Mr. Alex Obiameta JP, presenting his broadcasting skills for assessment. With his newfound recognition, Timileyin landed the prestigious role of anchoring the early morning news on Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS). Rising before dawn, he'd prepare for the day's broadcast, his voice echoing across the camp.

Timi’s interview with an NDLEA official highlighted the dangers of drug abuse, urging corp members to abstain. This thought-provoking segment sparked crucial conversations, promoting a healthier lifestyle.

Swearing-in Ceremony: A Pledge to Serve



At the swearing-in ceremony, Timi, alongside fellow corp members, pledge to served Nigeria. This moment marked a commitment to nation-building and selfless service.


The Great Food Rush



The camp's dining experience was a tale of contrasts. Corp members eagerly anticipated mealtimes, only to face uncertainty. Rice, bread, and tea were staples, occasionally supplemented with bread and cooked eggs, pap and beans, sometimes pap and beans cake (akara), tuwo and okra soup, or eba with egusi soup. Sundays brought a welcome respite – chicken and rice.

The familiar sound pierced the air: "Hungry corpers, your food is ready!" The beagle's booming voice signaled mealtimes, sending a wave of excitement through the camp.

The beagle's announcements were met with eager anticipation. Its legendary culinary intervention had transformed mealtimes, leaving an indelible mark on the corp members' experience.

Mealtimes were a frenzy, with corp members racing to the dining hall after completing tasks. Disappointment awaited those who arrived late, only to find empty serving trays. Timileyin often found himself in this predicament, prompting him to explore alternative options.

The nearby Mami market offered a pricey but satisfying solution. A plate of food cost around ₦1,000, a steep price for a corp member's budget. Despite the expense, Timileyin occasionally treated himself to a balanced meal, savoring flavors beyond the camp's offerings.

Rumors swirled that the beagle, infamous for its loud announcements, had a hidden talent – culinary mastery. Whispers circulated that it had secretly orchestrated this gastronomic delight.

"Who knew the beagle had such skills?" Timileyin exclaimed, earning nods of agreement from his comrades.

OBS TEAM: A Family of Storytellers


Timi’s experience with OBS team was unforgetable. Together, they crafted engaging content, sharing camp stories and experiences. Laughter, creativity and camaraderie filled air, forging unbreakable bonds.

Hosting Maryam Buba and Ola Linda on the Camp Gist Program, Timi unveiled exciting moments from the orientation course. These episodes showcased the diversity and talented within the camp, leaving a lasting impact.

Timi’s journey was not solo; he acknowledges the love and support from family and friends. Their encouraging fueled his passion, driving him to make a difference.

QUARTER GUARD CHRONICLES: Marching to the Beat of Excellence Unforgettable Encounters,  Camaraderie, and Life Lessons at Katsina Camp

Timileyin Oriowo’s National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) journey took an exciting turn at the Katsina orientation camp, where he became an integral part of the quarter guard team. Admits rigorous rehearsals, parades, and flag ceremonies, Timi forged unbreakable bonds with fellow corp members.


Rehearsals were a daily affairs, with Timi and colleagues perfecting their marching skills. Officer Afolabi’s nicknames for Timi, ‘Oriowo’, sparked laughter and made him stand out. This moniker symbolized the value of hard work and dedication.

The quarter guard team was a melting pot of personalities, with nicknames like Toi Toi, Poor Man, Jumoke, Taraba, Centri among others. Enoch Zeacheous led the squad with finesse. Together, they mastered the art of precision marching.

Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) Adamu and Officer Afolabi (Oga Afo), seasoned Nigeria Army trainers, impacted valuable life skills and advice. Their friendly demeanor put corp members at ease, making the quarter guard experience unforgettable. 

Timi and his team flawlessly executed parades and flag ceremonies, showcasing their discipline and teamwork.  The welcoming ceremony for visiting NYSC officers was a highlight, demonstrating their unity and pride.

Timi’s quarter guard experience taught him; discipline and teamwork, importance of attention to detail, value of membership and guidance,  camaraderie and bonding.

Timileyin's NYSC Hostel Experience: Breaking Barriers, Building Bonds in Katsina Camp


Timileyin Oriowo's National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) journey was marked by an extraordinary hostel experience at the Katsina camp. As the sole speaker of his mother tongue in his bunk, he bridged cultural divides, earning love and admiration from fellow corp members.

Among 8 corp members in his bunk section, Timileyin stood out as the only one fluent in his native language. Yet, he embraced this uniqueness, using humor and gestures to connect with others.

Timileyin's attempts to mimic Hausa phrases left his colleagues in stitches. He'd call out names like "Oga Stephanu" and "General Yakubu Gowon," creating an infectious atmosphere of laughter and camaraderie. He's creative nicknaming endeared him to his friends. "Oga Abu Abu," "Sy Monie," Oga Hakeemi and "Oga Samsudeen" became household names, symbolizing the strong bonds forged in the hostel.

Mealtimes brought excitement, as Timileyin's friends would chant "Abichin!" (Hausa for "our food!"), signaling his arrival. The anticipation was palpable, reflecting the joy he brought to their lives.

Timileyin's hostel mates affectionately dubbed him "OBS". This nickname encapsulated his radiant personality, shining bright in the hearts of those around him.

As the three-week orientation course concluded, Timileyin's impact remained. His fellow corp members carried memories of his infectious laughter, creative nicknames, and heartfelt gestures.

In Timileyin's words: "NYSC taught me that language barriers can be broken with love, humor, and a willingness to learn. My hostel experience was a beautiful melting pot of cultures, forever etched in my heart."

ORIOWO’S NCCF EXPERIENCE: A Melody of Faith and Fellowship

Harmonizing heart and souls at Katsina NYSC camp, Timi was enriched by his involvement with the Nigeria Christian Coppers Fellowship (NCCF). The fellowship’s  family song resonated deeply with Timi, creating an unforgettable experience.


Timi stumbled upon NCCF during a camp activity, and the warm welcome he received drew him in. The fellowship's mission to foster spiritual growth and unity among Christian corp members resonated with him.

NCCF's family song, "We Are One in Christ," became an anthem for Timi. Its harmonious melody and heartfelt lyrics filled him with joy and a sense of belonging.

Timi's NCCF experience was marked by Spirit-filled worship sessions, Inspiring Bible studies, Heartwarming fellowship, Supportive community,  treasures memories of Late-night prayer sessions, Uplifting testimonies, Joyful praise and worship, Unbreakable bonds formed

Timileyin's Man O'War Drill Experience: A NYSC Katsina Camp Adventure Beyond the Ordinary



Timileyin Oriowo's National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) journey at Katsina camp was marked by an unforgettable experience at the Man O'War drill. A twist of fate led him to join a different platoon, forging unexpected memories.

Timileyin was scheduled to participate in the drill with his platoon, but duty called. He was assigned to quarter guard rehearsal after the morning flag-up, signaled by the beagle's distinctive sound. His platoon proceeded without him.

Undeterred, Timileyin joined the 10th platoon for their drill session. This unexpected turn of events proved to be a blessing in disguise. Together, they marched, synchronized in movement, and united in spirit. The drill sessions became a highlight of Timileyin's camp experience, filled with camaraderie with new comrades, adrenaline-pumping exercises, precision and discipline. The Man O'War spot witnessed numerous sessions of drills and activities, etching indelible memories in Timileyin's mind.

Timileyin's Man O'War adventure was a testament to adaptability and teamwork. He reflects, "Joining 10th platoon was a blessing. I discovered new strengths, forged unexpected bonds, and created lifelong memories."

As Timileyin concluded his NYSC program, the Man O'War drill experience remained an integral part of his journey. His story inspires future corp members to embrace unexpected opportunities, finding growth and camaraderie in the process.

TIMILEYIN CULTURAL ODYSSEY: Showcasing Yoruba Heritage at NYSC Katsina Camp A Voice that Elevated Culture, Unity, and Pride

Timileyin Oriowo's National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) experience in Katsina reached new heights as he led 9 Platoon's Yoruba culture display at the camp's Culture Carnival Day. His artistic voice and passion for Yoruba heritage left an indelible mark.

Yoruba language and culture are renowned for respect, embedded in greetings and interactions. Unique expressions such as proverbs, idioms, and poetic language. Cuisine, delicious dishes like amala and ewelu with gbegiri, pounded and egusi soup, eko and akara among others. Trades like skilled artisans, farmers, and entrepreneurs. Values, Hospitality, community, and ancestral reverence

Timi's powerful voice echoed through the carnival grounds as he presented Yoruba culture with pride. The display featured, traditional attire like vibrant adire, agbada, and iro. Music and dance like nergetic afrobeat and graceful movements. Arts and crafts like intricate wood carvings, beadwork, and pottery. Food and drinks like savory delicacies and refreshing palm wine.

High-table dignitaries and fellow platoons admired Timi's distinguished voice and the rich cultural showcase. His performance, entertained and educated the audience, elevated Yoruba culture and heritage, encouraged self-growth and talent development, fostered unity and appreciation among corp members.

Timi's cultural display remains an unforgettable experience, etched in the hearts of all who witnessed it.

The camp's emphasis on corp members' welfare was commendable. Timileyin praised the provision of amenities, medical care, and support staff, ensuring a comfortable and focused environment.

ORIOWO'S RELOCATION ODYSSEY: A Journey of Discovery and Connection, from Katsina to Ogun 

As the orientation course drew to a close, Timileyin Oriowo received his relocation letter to Ogun State. Little did he know, this marked the beginning of an unforgettable journey.

Timi's day began with activating his Access Bank ATM to access his allowance. A faulty phone led him to a repair shop, followed by a visit to Super Moon Cafe for his relocation letter printout. Winners Corpers Fellowship family hosted him and fellow corp members, providing warmth and support.

The journey to Ogun State took two days, fostering camaraderie among fellow corp members. Timi engaged with new friends, sharing stories and laughter.

The orientation camp's closing ceremony marked the end of an era. Timi bid farewell to Katsina, embarking on a new adventure.
